"Look....my little unemployed waif"

Basically in the late eighties, early nineties when my parents got divorced they set me up with a TV and VCR in my room --I think somehow they replaced what should have been therapy with said TV/VCR.  This new magical device instantly became my new babysitter, comfort blanket and companion.   Movies became a huge deal for me, in 1990 I watched Pretty Woman so many times that my personality was somewhat molding into that of “Viv “(Julia Roberts) character, not the call girl aspect but the charming, whip smart, quick witted persona she evoked. When Reality Bites came along in 1994 I was mesmerized by Winona Ryder’s character: “Lalana Pierce” I remember being in the theater and being really excited about what I was watching, its almost as if I knew that this movie would stay with me for many moons.  I wanted to emulate her every move, I bought a slouch dress, hiked up my knickers and tucked my button downs; I even chopped my hair into the same messy mop top and started smoking (bad choice there).  Her best friend Vicky  (played by the lovely Janeane Garofalo) also lent qualities for a young impressionable me, there is still not but a few weeks....ok or days (if that) that goes by that I don't quote some line from that movie-- 18 years later, and still laugh every time!

it's a Cosssssby sweatah'

DIY these 'Cosby sweater' leggings! If you don't know what a Cosby sweater is, well that is another story entirely.  Basically, thrift an old sweater; steal one from Grandpa's closet or buy an expensive Cynthia Rowley. Cut arms off and sew to a pair of leggings that have been cut above the knees and wa'lah insta fashionista!

Far a'part

Leave it to two style mavens to throw a wrench in the typical day to day hair part -- I think its fun, and besides things that are kinda 'ugly' are cool now, right?!

'Honestly WTF' website ....rocks!

sloppy top knot without a sock or doughnut

You can do the top knot in a couple of ways; one is to use a spongy doughnut another is the sock method and the third is what is most likely seen above, and that is the half pony tail on top of your head. All you need to do is flip your hair upside down and create a half ponytail on top of your head, secure it with an elastic and then use the reaming hair to wrap around the elastic, fasten with bob pins or hair pins!!

embellishments ala Jennifer Lawerence red carpet look

you can add any embellishment to your sleek or tousled hair, you can find such items at any craft store and secure with hairpins.

pony tail knot

Bring hair back into two sections, tie one knot, with the remaining hair tie another knot and wallah' knot ponytail, secure with hairpins if needed. You may also want to spray some sort of texture spray ( Goldwell spray wax works wonders) to add a bit of hold and texture.

temporary pastels

you can find many different products these days that give you the look of pastel tips, I really am drawn to the chalk based, they are easy to wash out and do nothing to harm the hair. You will only need the chalk or color dust and some sort of highlighting board or flat surface. Simply dust on the color or multiple colors at the tips and dunzo you have your pastel tips for the night!

Head Scarf

Use any old awesome scarf of your granny's, fold in half and secure behind the head; or you can tie a knot in the scarf, place the knot side on top of your hair and tie in the back and presto youre hip!

Wrapping Buns

This is one of my favorites! I love the whole top-knot, sock-knot or sloppy bun knot that is now ever so present, if you want to add some gizz to it, tie a scarf around it!

ORANGE LIPS

orange lips are a BIG thing right now, my favorite beyond favorites are two that are made by Revlon, they are in a green tube and are easily accessible, you can find them at any drug store! Score! Revlon "Orange Flip" is my hands down daily wear, but "Hot Coral" is also an amazing orange, it does have a little more red to it however and a great frost orange is "24k orange or Siren."   The Reds that I love by them that are in the black cases are: "Kiss me Coral, Fire and Ice and Love that Red."
